Gauribai
Gauribai, 1759. poet-saint of Gujarat. Born at Giripur, in an enlightened and prosperous household, not much is known of her parentage. She was married at the age of only five or six, but became a widow after hardly a week. As widows were not allowed to remarry then. She took a religious life. Raja Sivasimhji was attracted by her piety that he built a temple for her in 1780, where she came to reside. She later settled in Kashi (Allahabad). Though she mostly wrote in Gujarati she has composed some Hindi hymns also.
