George VI

George VI (1895-1952), King of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. He married Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon (now the Queen Mother) in 1923, their two children being Elizabeth (Queen Elizabeth II) and Margaret. George was proclaimed king on the abdication of his brother, Edward VIII. He was respected for his strong sense of duty, his family life, and for his courage in coping with ill-health and a stammer.
