Padmasi Naidu
Padmasi Naidu, 1900-75, statesman. Eldest daughter of Sarojini Naidu. She was born on 17 November 1900 at Hyderabad, A.P. Inspired by her mother, she became a political activist since the age of 21. She was also jailed for her role in the Quit India Movement of 1942. She w&, elected to Lok Sabha in 1950, but resigned because of ill health, two years later. In October 1956, she was appointed governor of West Bengal, during very difficult times, and managed the situation with great tact and firmness. She continued to remain the Governor till May 1967. A close associate of Jawaharlal Nehru, she was the chairman of the executive council of the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library from 1968 to 1974.
