Patachara
Patachara, 560-480 B.C., Buddhist nun. Daughter of a rich trader of Sravasti, she married a youth of his own choice which displeased her parents, and she left her home with her husband to live in a foreign land. Later after the birth of her two sons she set out for Sravasti to see her parents, but lost her husband through a snake-bite, and her sons in tragic circumsances, on the way. And when she reached Sravasti she learnt that both of her parents have perished in a house collapse. She was very distressed when she met the Buddha, who was at Sravasti at the time, and he consoled her. She soon became a nun and spent her life in the propagation of the new religion.
