Satyawati

Satyawati, d. 1945. political worker. A granddaughter of the Arya Samaj leader, Swami Shradhanand, she jointed the national movement in 1930 when she was only 23. She was very active in leading processions, picketing foreign cloth shops, and in addressing public meetings. She was imprisoned in May 1930 for leading a political procession. She was released after six months, but was rearrested in 1932 and sentenced to two years. She was again sentenced in 1940 and 1941 for anti-war activities, and detained during the Quit India Movement in August 1942. She fell very seriously j11 in jail and was released on the condition that she did not enter Delhi. She defied the orders and was again arrested. She was later released and die case withdrawn, but she died soon afterwards.
