Short Biography, Paragraph of “Herodotus” short paragraph for Class 10, Class 12 and Graduate Classes

Herodotus

Herodotus (c. 484-c. 425 BC). Greek historian, often called the ‘father of history’. He spent his early life in Halicarnassus but was banished from that city for political reasons and moved to Samos. After a period in Athens he moved to a Greek colony in Italy, where he died. His great work is an account of the wars between Greece and Persia in nine books. Apart from the lively narrative, this contains much interesting material on the geography and customs of the region gathered from Herodotus’s own travels. He is regarded as the first historian to research his subject thoroughly and to subject his sources to critical examination.
