Stan Laurel
Stan Laurel, (1890-1965) and Hardy, Oliver (1892-1957). US actors, partners in some of the best-known film comedies ever made. Laurel, the thin member of the pair, was born Arthur Stanley Jefferson in Britain. He went to the US and formed a partnership with his fat and domineering counterpart, Hardy, in 1926. They made more than 50 short comedies and many feature-length films. Their humour depended on skillfully contrived visual jokes, slapstick, and their own contrasting mannerisms and personalities. Their films include Leave ‘Em Laughing (1928), The Music Box (1932), Pack Up Your Troubles (1932), and Babes in Toyland (1934).
