Dame Alicia Markova
Dame Alicia Markova, , stage name of Lilian Alicia Marks (1910- ). British ballerina. She became prima ballerina of the Vic-Wells Ballet (1932-35) and subsequently danced with the Ballets Russes of Monte Carlo and several US companies. From 1970 she taught in the US. She is noted for her delicate interpretations of the classic roles in such ballets as Giselle, Swan Lake, and Romeo and Juliet.
