Thucydides
Thucydides (c. 460-400 BC). Greek historian and general. His History of the Peloponnesian War (431-404), an account of the war between Athens and Sparta, is the first documented historical record. In 424 the Athenian army was defeated while under his command and Thucydides was exiled from Athens until the end of the war. His History, which breaks off at 411, was completed by Xenophon.
