A bad workman quarrels with his tools
Man is essentially an egoist. He is always conscious of his importance. Some people carry this weakness too far. They would refuse to admit the truth if it happens to affect them adversely. This is true of a bad workman, whatever be the nature of his work. He will not admit his own shortcomings but attribute his failure to the low quality of the material provided to him. This is a clear case of self-deception, of deliberate refusal to improve the quality of one’s work and remove one’s weaknesses. On the other hand, a man who really wants to do good work, whatever the field of his activity, will make the best use of the material available. For instance, a good commander will not refuse to defend his country against an invader merely because the army at his command is inadequate for the task or not so well equipped with war material. Greatness is another name for overcoming obstacles, handicaps, and reaching one’s goal in spite of the heaviest of odds.
