A House on Fire
Fire is useful when it is under control. It serves man greatly but when it burns uncontrollably, it proves to be a curse. It can destroy worth millions of rupees and life in a matter of a few seconds.
It was eleven in the night and I was studying in my room. Suddenly I heard a great noise coming below my window. I saw people crying “Fire!” “Fire!.. I also came out of my room and rushed towards the fire. The flames were rising and coming out of the building. A thatched house had caught fire. The smoke was coming through the windows. It was a terrible sight.
There I saw people running all over the place to arrange water and throw it over the raging fire. I joined them to help douse the fire. A woman was crying badly. Her son was left inside the burning house. The fire was spreading menacingly. Then a brave young man dashed in and brought the child to safety. All praised that young man.
Fortunately someone had informed the Fire Brigade. They soon came and extinguished the fire. Later it was learnt that a burning charcoal had caused the fire. It was an unforgettable experience for me.
