You were on duty during recess. You saw a few boys in a classroom.
Five minutes before the bell for recess went. I was having my short break as the start of recess meant the start of my prefect duty. I gobbled down my food while chatting with my best friend, Heather.
“Ring!” The bell rang. “See you later, Heather,” I said as I ran off to carry out my duty.
I patrolled along the corridors of the school block. For those pupils who were still in class, I reminded them that they were not allowed to stay in class. Just as I was walking past Primary 5G, I heard some noise coming from the classroom. I was about to enter the classroom to remind them to go for their recess when I saw three boys standing in a corner of the classroom and they were giggling.
My instincts told me that they were up to no good. I walked in closer and quietly and I was horrified to see that they were pouring glue into someone’s bag! That was a terrible act. I gasped in shock and this made the boys turn around. They were initially shocked to see me but the biggest and tallest of the three walked up to me, tugged at my tie, and said, “You know how to mind your own business right?”
I was furious. How could I let them get away with that? “No way,” | spat angrily. I added that I would not hesitate to report them as what they had done was a terrible act of bullying. They laughed and then one of them picked up the tube of glue and walked towards me.
“Maybe you would like to try some of this on your hair,” he sneered.
I was frightened but did not know where I got my courage from. I pushed his hand aside and ran out of the class. They shouted after me, “Tell and you’ll be in trouble!”
I could not care less. My heart was thumping furiously as I ran all the way to the General Office. There I saw my discipline master, Mr. Tan, and I told him what had happened. He asked me for their names but I did not know and he asked me to identify them during the assembly after recess. I was worried and shared my worries about the threat to Mr. Tan. He assured me that he would know what to do.
After recess, he took me to Primary 5G, and there, standing at the back of the class were the three boys. They stared daggers at me but I held my head high and pointed confidently at them. Their hostile looks turned to worried faces as they had not expected me to point them out.
Instantly, the trio were summoned to Mr. Tan. I went back to class after that.
The next day, the three boys were brought to the stage and they were caned publicly. Mr. Tan told the school what had happened and he praised me for being honest and not giving in to their threats. I beamed with pride, knowing that I had carried out my duty well.
