You were playing at a park. You heard a loud scream.
It was the June holidays. I was all alone at home as my parents had gone to work. Feeling bored after watching countless cartoon programmes, I decided to go to the park nearby to cycle.
As I cycled to the park, the cool breeze caressed my face, leaving me cool and refreshed. I hummed a tune to myself as I went round and round the park. Half an hour passed and I was feeling rather exhausted. I stopped by a shady area and rested. Leaning against a tree, I sat down and closed my eyes, enjoying the serenity of the park.
I was almost dozing off when a loud scream woke me up. I jumped up and looked around. Frightening thoughts ran through my head as I guessed something bad must have happened. My attention was drawn to a little girl standing near some bushes. She had a terrified look and she was pointing to something near her. I was apprehensive about approaching her as I knew something was not right. However, I knew I could not leave her in the lurch.
Mustering my courage, I walked gingerly towards her. The nearer got, the view got clearer. There, lying next to the little girl’s feet was a dead body. I shuddered in fear and was nauseous at the gruesome sight. I clutched my stomach while I signalled for the girl to come to me. She walked to me and hid behind me. I hurriedly dug into my pocket and took out my mobile phone. With trembling fingers, I dialed ‘999’ for the police. After that, we retreated to the tree where I was previously and waited for help.
A few minutes later, three smartly-dressed police officers arrived. They questioned me and the little girl. They could not get much from the little girl as she was still in a state of shock. A hearse arrived to take the semi-decomposed body. As the men wrapped the body in a plastic, I could not help wondering what had happened to the person.
The police officers thanked me for calling them. After that, they sent the girl home and I cycled home on my own. I could not wait to tell my parents all about it.
