Almost all absurdity of conduct arises from the imitation of those whom we cannot resemble
Emerson rightly said that imitation is suicide. Every individual is a unique creation of God. Every individual has his own equation, perception or approach. Every individual has his own genius as well as environment. Therefore, every individual is well-advised to go his own way. If two individuals resemble in many aspects of their temperaments, one may seek some advice or suggestion from the other. But if the resemblance is thin and scanty, the path of imitation is the path of self-murder. Let imitation left alone for apes. Human beings are meant for something higher and nobler. Affectation or pretence are hostile of good personality. The absurdity of conduct is witnessed when an Indian starts aping an Englishman. In a famous story of HG Wells, a young man loses his beloved as soon as he sheds off his natural self and starts posing as a seasoned actor. It is sincerity to oneself and one’s own being that counts. Acting is only graceful on the stage.
