Our life is what our thoughts make it
On any rational view, man is not the eating and drinking physique, but the thinking and feeling being. The word ‘man’ itself is derived from the Sanskrit Manas, meaning mind. Primarily and essentially, man is more in mind and spirit than a physical figure. The body is only the working tool, instrument, of man. Mind is the possessing and directing agent. All actions and behaviour are propelled and governed by the mind, which is essentially thought. As a man thinketh so he becometh, is the old saying. Therefore, the ancients, both in the East and West, prayed for mental illumination. Lead kindly light or, as the Veda says, direct, O God, our thought aright-pure and righteous thought is the basis of good life.
