We make our own heaven or hell
Mon is verily the architect of his own fortune. “Our stars, O Horatio, are in us,” as Shakespeare makes his philosopher character Hamlet say. If a person is good and active, he or she will enjoy peace and comfort. Milton made the same point when he said: “Mind is its own place; ‘It makes a heaven of hell and hell of heaven”. Marlowe defines heaven as “the protracted state of the consciousness of doing good”, and hell as “the protracted state of the consciousness of being evil.” A clean conscience is the spring of peace of happiness. Its reverse causes uneasiness which is the condition of misery. Doing good or evil is in one’s own hands. Similarly, wealth and comfort are always earned.
