We talk little if we do not talk about ourselves
The statement applies to egoists, but since most of us are so, we delight in talking about ourselves. We speak nothing but our own praises. But those, who behave like this, are not considered cultured persons. A cultured man would talk as little about himself as possible. In old techniques of publicity and propaganda, it was emphasised that one’s own point of view should be stressed even to boredom. It worked when the people were illiterate or ignorant. But now the techniques of publicity have changed. Now the insistence is on the understanding of the point of view of others and on meeting it as far as possible. You can have your way more easily if you appeal to the interest of others. However, if there are no compelling circumstances, an individual would talk of himself only or about what interests him. If this is not so, there will hardly be any talk.
