How do cellular phones work?

In a cellular network system, the area covered is divided into cells. Each cell has its own transmitter & receiver (transceiver) and is connected to the nearest telephone company. This cellular phone also has a built-in radio transmitter and receiver which is linked to the nearest telephone company. A computer in the telephone company keeps track of the cell you are in. If the telephone user moves into another cell, a new transceiver takes over. In this way one can communicate over a,  ii large area without a powerful radio.
