Jagadish Chandra Bose
Introduction: Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose was an Indian scientist with a patriotic and literary zeal. He was also a biologist, archaeologist, physicist, and writer as well. He was a person with multiple abilities. Besides major works on scientific research, he contributed the Bengali literature with his literary essays.
Birth: Jagadish Chandra Bose was born on 30th day of November in 1858 at Mymensingh in British India (now in Bangladesh).
Early life and education: His father was employed as a senior-employee of British Government at Faridpur. He was admitted at a local school at Faridpur for his early schooling. Thereafter, he came to Kolkata (now Calcutta). At Kolkata, he got admission at St. Xavier’s School and later at St. Xavier’s College. He secured his bachelor’s degree in 1879. He went to England to study natural science at Cambridge University.
Early Career: He became a professor at Presidency College at Kolkata. His subject was Physics.
Contribution:
Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose invented Crescograph, an equipment for measuring the growth of plants.
He made significant contribution in the field of plant science and plant biology. He proved that plants have life by displaying that heat, light, cold, etc. are experienced by both plant and animals.
His works on wireless and radio microwave technology are of immense significance.
He established a scientific research institute at Kolkata. The institute is known as ‘Bose Institute”.
He wrote literary essays in Bengali.
Last Days: Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose is among few of the famous scientists of the 20th century. He breathed his last on 23rd November, 1937.
