Brief History of Qutb-ud-din Mubarak Shah Khilji

 

Qutb-ud-din Mubarak Shah Khilji was the son of Ala-ud-din Khilji. He had escaped destruction at Malik Kafur’s hands, and became the third Sultan of Delhi.

 

Mubarak Shah began his reign well. He repealed the harsh regulations of his father restored the confiscated lands to their owners and abolished his father’s system of price control. A rebellion having broken out in Gujarat, he sent his officer, Ain-ul-Mulk, to suppress the revolt. Gujarat was soon reduced to submission.

 

March to Deccan: Mubarak himself marched into the Deccan and defeated a King, who had revolted against him.

 

His Death: Under Mubarak, the administration of Delhi became unstable. The Sultan left the conduct of the State affairs in the hands of Khusro Khan. This favorite was a willing agent of the monarch in all his vices and crimes. At last in 1320, he murdered Mubarak Shah and seized the throne.

 

Successor of Qutb-ud-din Mubarak Shah: After his death, Khusro Khan assumed the title of Nasir-ud-din Khusro Shah. He abused his ill-gotten power in the most shameless manner. But his order of blood and violence did not last long. Khushro was defeated and overthrew by Ghiyas-ud-din Tughluq, in 1320.
