Gulzar – Sampooran Singh Kalra
He was born on August 18, 1936. Sampooran Singh Kalra is better known as Gulzar. He is a notable poet, film-maker, director, and playwright of India. He primarily works in Hindi and Urdu languages. He is well known for his association with the music directors including R. D. Burman, S.D. Burman, Salil Chowdhury and Madan Mohan. Before becoming an established writer, he used to work as a car mechanic.In the Indian film industry, Gulzar has worked for more than forty-three years and is best known as a lyricist. For his immense contribution to Indian cinema he was conferred with Padma Bhushan in 2004 and Sahitya Akademi Award in 2002. Besides, he has also won several awards for best director and best lyrics at the national level.
