Joint Forest Management in India
On the bases of the National Forest Policy of 1988, the environment and forest ministry of Indian Government declared the decision of contribution of local community and volunteer organization to develop forest in barren and eroded soil by a circular. This is called Joint Forest Management (JFM).
Besides giving importance on protection of environment, maintain the balance of ecosystem, protection of climate, the contribution of forest living community and volunteer organization and the forest based live- hood are also accepted.
Success of Joint Forest Management
The success and extension of Joint Forest Management are as follows:
Many forest guard committees have been organized at various places.
There are large number of the member of this committee.
Forest guard and protection program of ‘Joint Forest Management’ have got international acceptance.
Many states have been able to successfully implement the policy.
