Vallabhbhai Patel
Vallabhbhai Patel, a political and social leader of India was born on October 31st 1875. He was fondly referred to as Sardar Patel, and performed a chief role in the independence struggle of India. He also assisted in country’s merger into an integrated autonomous state. Patel is acknowledged as the ‘Iron Man of India’, as well as the ‘Patron Saint’ of India’s civil servants for instituting contemporary All-India Services.He was employed in successful practice as a lawyer when he was first inspired by the work and philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi. He was instrumental in organising the peasants of Kheda, Borsad, and Bardoli in Gujarat in non-violent civil disobedience in opposition to tyrannical guidelines forced upon by the British Raj. Patel became the first Home Minister as well as Deputy Prime Minister of free India.
