Abha Maiti

Abha Maiti, 1925- , political and social worker. Educated at the Bethune College, Calcutta, and University Law College, Calcutta, she became an active political worker, and participated in the Quit India Movement of August 1942. She was also an office bearer of the West Bengal Congress Committee, and was the general secretary of the Indian National Congress in 1960. She was a member of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly from 1952 to 1957 and a member of the Rajya Sabha in 1960. She was the Minister for Refugee Relief and Rehablitation of West Bengal from 1962 to 1969, and was also connected with many social and educational organizations.
