Ardehir Tata
Ardehir Tata, Herabai, d. 1941, political worker. A member of the famous Tata family, she was a member of the Theosophical Society and worked in collaboration with Annie Besant. She was a member of the delegation led by Sarojini Naidu which waited on the Secretary of State, Mr Montagu, when he came to India in 1917. She also went to England in 1919 in a delegation to plead for women’s rights. Tata, Mehr Bai, d. 1931, social and political worker. Daughter-in-law of the industrialist, Jamsedji Tata, she was one of the leaders of women’s movement in India, and the moving spirit behind National Council of Women in India. In 1917 she led a deputation to the British viceroy in protest against indentured labour in the colonies. She was also the chairman of All India Women’s Conference, in 1930. She was a widely travelled woman, and intensely interested in female education. She died in North Wales, in 1931.
