Kamala Das Gupta
Kamala Das Gupta, 1907, revolutionary and social worker. Born in a respectable Bengali family of Dacca, she came under the influence of the revolutionary movement while a university student in Calcutta. She was arrested in 1930 and again in 1932 in connection with revolutionary outrages but was released for want of evidence. She was interned in 1933, and again in 1936. She joined the Congress in 1938 and took part in the Quit India Movement and was arrested in August 1942. She worked for the relief of the refugees from Burma in 1942-43 and again took up relief work at Calcutta, Noakhali, Comilla, and other places during in communal strifes of 1946-48. She was also associated with many social and educational organizations for women.
