Mariam-uz-Zamani

Mariam-uz-Zamani, 1623, Rajput princess. Daughter of Raja Bihari Mal of Amber (Jaipur) her hand was offered by her father to Emperor Akbar when he was on a pilgrimage to Ajmer in 1562. The alliance marked the beginning of close Mughal-Rajput relations. In 1569, she gave birth to Prince Salim, who succeeded Akbar as Emperor Jahangir. Jahangir raised a splendid mausoleum over her grave at Sikandra, near Agra. Her real name is not known; Mariam Zamani ‘Mary of the Age’ is only a title.
