Swarna Kumari
Swarna Kumari Devi, 1855-1932, Bengali poet and writer. The tenth of the 14 children of Devendranath Tagore, and elder sister of the poet, Tagore, she was educated at home, and observed purdah. She was a prolific writer, and wi ote novels, short stories, dramas, poems and songs. In 1921, in the absence of her brother, Rabindranath Tagore, she presided over the Bangiya Sahitya Sammelan. She also worked for the social uplift of women and organized societies and fairs for them.
