Yasodhara

Yasodhara,  560-480 B.C., wife of the Buddha. Originally named, Gopa, she was the wife of Prince Siddhartha (later the Buddha) of Kapilvastu, and bore him a son, Rahula. She was left sleeping in the night when her husband set out to seek the truth. When Buddha returned to Kapilvastu after his enlightenment, she became his follower, and presented to him her son to be made a monk. She was later renamed Yasodhara (`the bearer of glory’) by the people to show their love and gratitude for her.
