Akhenaten
Akhenaten (1350 BC), Egyptian pharaoh. His at-tempt to replace traditional Egyptian religion with the cult of the sun god Aten caused violent internal disorders and the downfall of the Egyptian empire in Asia. The royal portraits at Tell el-Amarna, the capital he founded, are unlike any others in Ancient Egypt, showing Akhenaten with his wife Nefertiti and his children in informal situations.
