Ayrton Senna
Ayrton Senna, (1960-94). Brazilian motor-racing driver. He started his Formula One career in 1984 and took his first Grand Prix title in Portugal the following year. An aggressive competitor who took many calculated risks on the track, he went on to win the Formula One World Championship in 1988, 1990, and 1991. His records include eight Grand Prix victories in 1988 and four consecutives in 1991. He died of head injuries suffered when he crashed into a wall during the San Marino Grand Prix. His death caused widespread mourning in Brazil. where he was regarded as a national hero.
