Charles Augustin de Coulomb
Charles Augustin de Coulomb (1736-1806), French scientist. Coulomb investigated electrical and magnetic attraction by means of the torsion balance, which he invented. He formulated Coulomb’s Law, which states that the force between two electric charges is proportional to the product of the charges and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them. The coulomb, a unit of electric charge, was named after him.
