Dylan Thomas
Dylan Thomas, (1914-53). Welsh poet. He began to publish poetry at the age of 20 and later worked for the BBC as a scriptwriter. His exuberant rhetorical poetry began to attract a following during World War II. In 1950 he began a series of popular poetry-reading tours in the US. His Collected Poems (1952) was very successful, as was his verse play Under Milk Wood (1954), which tells of the colourful inhabitants of a Welsh village. Thomas, an alcoholic, died in New York at 39.
