Robert De Niro
Robert De Niro (1943), US actor, best-known for playing sensitive but inarticulate tough-guys. He began to appear in films in the mid 1960s but first achieved prominence in Martin Scorsese’s Mean Streets (1973). He subsequently starred in a further six films by Scorsese, including Taxi Driver (1976), Raging Bull (1980), which earned him the Oscar for Best Actor, and GoodFellas (1990). His other films include The Godfather, Part II (1974) and Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein (1994). A leading exponent of Method acting, De Niro is famous for his arduous preparation for each role and his ability, to disguise his appearance.
