Rudolph Valentino
Rudolph Valentino, original name Rodolfo d’Antonguolla (1895-1926). US film actor, born in Italy. Arguably the most famous leading man Hollywood has ever produced, Valentino played exotic romantic heroes and had a devoted female following. Amongst his best-known films are The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse (1921), The Sheik (1921), and Blood and Sand (1922). Valentino’s sudden death at the age of 31 caused a number of his fans to commit suicide; his funeral was a national event. Her choreographic works include Thee Rake’s Progress and Don Quixote. Her autobiography, Come Dance With Me, was published in 1957. She was created DBE in 1950.
