Walter Payton
Walter Payton, (1954— ). US American football player, regarded as the greatest running back in the history of the game. Payton was born in Columbia, Missouri, and graduated from Jackson State University. He was recruited by the Chicago Bears in 1975 and remained with the team for 12 seasons. During this period he set a series of records for running with the ball and for yardage gained by running and passing. He retired after the 1987 season.
