The Peacock

The peacock is our national bird. It is a big bird. It is found throughout the length and breadth of the country. It is a beautiful bird. Its wings are long. They are colourful. There are moon like spots on them. They shine when the peacock dances. Peacocks have crowns on their heads. So they are called the kings of the birds. A peahen is smaller in size. She does not have crown on its head. So it is not as beautiful as the peacock.

The peacock likes the clouds very much. It dances when there is thunder in the sky. Peacock are found in fields and gardens. They eat grains. They are the friends of the farmers and enemy of the insects. People make decoration pieces with their wings. Peacock are the enemy of the snakes and small insects.

Generally, peacock lives in warm places. Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh are rich in this matter. We should not kill the peacock. But today peacock is on the verge of extinction and are killed brutally for its feathers. Though some strong measures have been taken to save this national bird from extinction but a move in the right direction is yet to be taken.
