Where does the term ‘in the chair’ come from?
A very long time back only the very wealthy people could afford a proper chair to sit on. The common people used benches, stools or the floor. At meetings and conferences today, the person incharge of order-keeping is said to be In the chair’ or ‘chairing’ the meeting/conference.
